What is engineering?
If we go by
the textbook definition, engineering is simply the practice of using scientific
and mathematical ideas to build structures, machines and solving problems.
Scientists
discover and create new innovations, but engineers are the ones who make these
innovations practically available to us.
History of engineering:-
Engineering has existed
among us since ancient times, but it became identifiable until later. The term
itself gained meaning in the fourteenth century when the engineer was used to
describing a person who built engines. In
historic times, engineers have created architectural masterpieces such as
pyramids and towers and many more wonders of the world.
Nowadays, this is classified
into a specific branch of engineering called civil engineering.
What do engineers do?
Engineers are the
connecting links between scientists and society. They convert the principles and theory of
mathematics and science into practical solutions.
Types of engineers:-
The field of engineering
is divided into many areas, but basically, there are four types of engineering-
chemical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical
engineering.
1. Chemical engineering- It implies the
principles of physics, chemistry biology and mathematics to carry out chemical
processes at a commercial scale.
2. Electrical engineering- It comprises
of studying, designing, constructing, manufacturing, control, testing and
inspection of electrical and electronic devices and systems ranging from small
microscopic circuits to huge electric power plants.
3. Civil engineering- civil engineering
is the designing and construction as well as maintenance and inspection of
buildings and infrastructure.
4. Mechanical engineering- It involves
and manufactures along with maintenance and inspection of machinery and
mechanical systems.
5. Computer Science engineering- it
includes the designing of computer hardware as well as programming the
software.
6. Artificial Intelligence engineering-
As the name suggests, artificial intelligence engineering accommodates working
with all sorts of AI.
7. Aerospace engineering- Designing,
manufacture and testing of aircraft is the major of aerospace engineering.
8. Nuclear engineering- nuclear
engineering is concerned with applications of nuclear physics to benefit the
humankind.
9. Marine engineering- Marine
engineering is associated with ocean resources.
There
are various other principles of engineering which involve the fusion of more
than one field of engineering. Interdisciplinary engineering involves more than
one principles of engineering.

How
to pursue engineering?
For entering this field, you need to
clear your intermediate with mathematics as a compulsory subject.
Next step is to pursue a bachelor degree in engineering (like B.tech) with the field of your choice.
Enhance your skills, practice a lot
and opt for a suitable master’s degree. Then you can go for further studies or a
job depending on your choice.
